These high-strength motors use a special tooth-surface machining technology combined with an optimized quiet-running design that maintains the motor’s strength. High-accuracy assembly technology ensures precision at micro levels.

Maximum permissible torque is increased by up to two times the level of conventional AC motor gearheads. If the load condition changes, the gearhead’s strength can easily accommodate it and there is no need to increase the size of the motor or gearhead. Specific torque is dependent on frame size.

The motor’s strength is due to its rigid case, a proprietary side-panel construction and an optimized gear design. The larger diameter bearing serves to extend its useful life.

For more information about the V-Series, visit: Motion Control Tips

Motors can be classified as either ac – alternating current, or dc – direct current, motors. An ac motor, like any electric motor, converts electrical energy to mechanical energy. AC motors take as their input an ac current, but differ from dc motors in that there is no commutation involved, and can be single or multi-phase.

Because ac motors have no commutators or brushes, they require less maintenance than brushed dc motors.

With dc motors, control is done by varying voltage and current, while on ac motors the voltage and frequency (along with the number of magnetic poles) are used to control the motor.

There is one common way to break down ac motors that is based on the magnetic principle that produces rotation. So there are two fundamental types of ac motors; induction motors and synchronous motors.

In induction motors, the key idea is the rotating magnetic field. The most common source of this in ac motors is the squirrel cage configuration. This is essentially two rings, one at each end of the motor, with bars of aluminum or copper connecting the two ends.

Induction motors have properties that make them especially well suited to a number of industrial as well as home appliance applications. For starters, they are simple and rugged motors that are easy to maintain. They also run at constant speed across a wide range of load settings, from zero to full-load. The only drawback is that induction motors are generally not amenable to speed control, although the availability of sophisticated variable-frequency drives means that even induction motors, usually three-phase induction motors, can now be speed controlled as well.

The other type of ac motor is a synchronous motor. Synchronous motors are so named because they run synchronously with whatever the frequency of the source is. The motor speed is fixed and doesn’t change with changes to the load or voltage. These motors are primarily used where the requirement is precise and constant speed. Most synchronous motors are used in heavy industrial applications, with horsepower ratings ranging from the low hundreds up to thousands of hp.

Synchronous motors can be used in motion control applications, but there are some down sides to using these motors. Because of the rotor size, the motor’s response in incrementing applications is typically not good. Also, because acceleration of inertial loads may not be as high as other motor types, these motors may operate at irregular speeds and produce undesirable noise. And generally, synchronous motors are larger and more costly than other motors with the same horsepower rating.

<a

The inverter duty motor is small and compact, in order to reduce energy consumption. The smallest AC motor offered, the AC65, measures just 2.88 inches square and 5.22 inches in length. This motor series is designed to directly integrate with Groschopp’s standard reducer lines with minimal interface components optimizing both size and cost. Groschopp’s AC motor further reduces energy consumption with its ability to run at varying speeds.

The Groschopp AC motor is utilized best in a long-life, continuous duty, application. It has no common wear parts such as brushes and commutators, so it is highly reliable, featuring long life potential and low maintenance. Since the AC motor maintains speed over a wide range of torque it integrates well with commercial ovens, conveyers, insulation blowers, augers, medical beds, x-ray tubes and other conveyer and continuous motion machines. With customization options for speed control and high heat resistance along with the convenient customization from standard to food-grade grease permits the AC motor to synchronize well with commercial, industrial, and construction applications.

The standard features in a Groschopp AC motor include: rugged ball-bearing construction, high-efficiency stator and rotor tolerances and impregnated windings designed to withstand more than twice the nominal voltage.

The Groschopp AC motor has a superb heat dissipation system. Groschopp’s AC motors have innovative cooling channels in the motor housing to avoid dust and grime build-up that can cause overheating and motor damage. “This special cooling mechanism allows the motor to run at lower speeds without overheating which is vital to an inverter duty motor” comments Tullar “we want our motors to last forever.” To further withstand the heat these motors also have insulation that meets “H” class temperature ratings with the ability to withstand temperatures up to 180 degrees Celsius.

Groschopp offers a single phase, 115 and a 230 volt AC motor and a high power, 230 volt, three phase motor. Groschopp can also custom build a dual voltage AC motor. Having both single and three-phase design options provides multiple cost-effective choices depending on the supply voltage and control requirements. “One of the best features of The AC motor is it’s lack of noise” says Tullar. “This AC motor runs so quietly it will not add any additional noise to your workplace,” this is thanks in part to the motor’s ability to run on low current. (Groschopp motors are UL, CSA, CE and RoHS compliant).

Groschopp Inc.<br

It also has a synthetic lubrication which allows the gearheads to operate in different temperatures. It can be configured to three-hole mounting pattern through a simple bolt-on adaptor (“Bodine model 0995”).

Also, the gearmotor has 12 new gear ratios with a three-wire reversible, fixed-speed AC motor.

The WX gearhead’s exterior is identical to old W models from Bodine, but its interior has been entirely redesigned. These all-new WX gearmotors has synthetic lubricant and steel helical gears, allowing the gearhead to give up to 50 percent more torque compared to previous models. Its new steel gearing has AGMA 9 standards, or higher, to insure the expected quiet operation from Bodine Electric products. Its synthetic lubricant improves life and allows unvented gearmotors to operate in different temperatures.

The 12 new WX stock models can be configured to feature a three-hole mounting pattern through a simple bolt-on adaptor plate (“Bodine model 0995”). The WX gearhead is the first to be paired with three-wire reversible 34 R from Bodine, motor winding and permanent split capacitor. Its three-wire configuration simplifies connection and reversing the motor’s direction by switching the place of its two leads. Also, new winding can be operated at 50Hz by using a different value run capacitor. The latest 230VAC, 50 or 60Hz, one-phase, three-wire reversible winding is available for custom configurations.

The WX models are made to drive various applications such as commercial appliances, metering devices, packaging equipment and conveyor systems.

<a
