Belden (www.belden.com) has announced that it adds a new I/O module to its Lumberg Automation range specifically designed for the decentralized Fieldbus system LioN-Link. Employing protection class requirements IP67, the new 0942 UEM 612 I/O module comprises four digital M12 slots with a higher output voltage limit that allows 2A per line and 6A in total.

Designed for safety-related applications up to level D, this I/O module is suitable for actuators’ failsafe control, or “following a complete switch-off of the 24V output power supply” reliable emergency OFF functions.

The terminal equipment can be linked directly to the I/O module. Thus, terminal boxes, which are expensive and complex to install, are no longer required, making it possible to employ cost-effective safety solutions for mechanical engineering applications and in the assembly and handling sector.

The I/O module can be utilized in Profibus, Profinet, CANopen or DeviceNet networks, depending on the chosen LioN-Link bus coupler. Furthermore, LioN-Link systems do not require terminating resistors and do not use slave address assignments.

Weighing only 200 g and measuring 182.4 x 30 x 28.4 mm, this module also features a high vibration, a shock resistance with 19V to 30V DC power supply, and a temperature range between 10 degree Celsius and +60 degree Celsius.

“Safety-related outputs can now be switched off directly in the field without the need for an additional terminal box. Moreover, installing these modules saves users even more time and money, because unlike comparable I/O systems they are wired up using only standard products,” said Robert Strehmann, product manager.

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces the G10 family of Ultra-Compact I/O Modules

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces the G10 family of Ultra-Compact I/O Modules with Connect & Done technology that can eliminate mounting requirements in many applications.  The world’s smallest AS-Interface I/O module with IP68/69K protection, at just 40 mm x 27 mm x 22mm the G10 fits easily into any cable duct and enables quick, convenient sensor connections using the integrated M12 pigtails.

“With its tiny footprint, this exceptionally robust module allows mounting in the most space-confined applications.  In fact, simply placing the G10 inside the cable tray may eliminate mounting entirely – that’s the power and simplicity of ‘connect and done’ functionality,” says Helge Hornis, Manager Intelligent Systems, Pepperl+Fuchs.

The robust single-piece housing makes use of a patented and field-proven hinged cover design that simplifies connectivity, ensures reliable contact to the AS-Interface flat cable, and typically eliminates any additional mounting requirements.  For applications where mounting is required, two integrated M4 screw holes are provided.  The G10 has no gaskets, inserts, separate housing parts, or additional screws that are easily lost.

“As with all other AS-Interface modules, Pepperl+Fuchs  uses high-quality, machined, gold-plated piercing contacts that, unlike the cheap stamped and zinc-coated alternative, provide superior long-term contact stability without damaging the internal strands of the AS-Interface cable,” explains Hornis.  “Placed around each of the piercing contacts is a concentric seal contour that provides high seal contact pressure, a main contributor to the reliable IP68/69K protection, even after many years of service.”

Sensors are powered from the yellow AS-Interface cable, and a continuous output current of up to 1 A can be supplied from AUX power.  All versions of the G10 ultra-compact I/O module family are equipped with bright diagnostic and status LEDs that are visible from all directions.  The G10 family also follows the latest AS-Interface specification 3.0.

The Expert I/O 1000 incorporates many I/O functions: 16 digital inputs, 16 digital outputs, 2 analog outputs (6 selectable ranges each), 6 analog inputs and 2 brush DC motor controllers with integrated amplifiers. In addition to these I/O functions, it contains 2KB of user accessible nonvolatile memory. Incredibly, all this is incorporated in a compact 6.125” x 3.375” x 2.25” enclosure.

To complement the digital I/O’s exceptionally large voltage range, the Expert I/O 1000 contains software configurable digital input pull resistors to eliminate the need for external pull resistors. They can be configured as pull-ups or pull-downs or can be completely disabled.

Mounting the Expert I/O 1000 is made effortless with its integrated DIN rail mounting mechanism. The innovative design of the DIN rail mounting feature allows the unit to remain stable on flat surfaces when not using DIN rail. This makes it equally suitable for lab bench uses.

Configuring the Expert I/O 1000 is exceedingly easy. All configuration and control is performed through a concise software API. The API is provided in a DLL, making it accessible from any application or development environment that can utilize DLL’s.
