JVL Industri Elektronik’s integrated servo MAC400 and MAC800 can now be delivered with built-in absolute multi-turn encoders, with a multi-turn resolution of +/-2048 whole turns, and a single-turn resolution of either 8000 or 8192 (software-selectable) with option for higher resolutions.

Motors equipped with absolute encoders will remember their positions while powered off, thus typically eliminating a zero search operation on start up. The position is stored mechanically using toothed wheels, so there will not be any of the problems with batteries that run down, or memories that loose information, that many other systems have.
The full absolute encoder position is available at all times for use by a PLC over any of the serial or fieldbus interfaces and can be used freely in a program.

High-speed MODBUS with Integrated Servo Motors from JVL

JVL Industri Elektronik A/S now offers yet another feature: The latest firmware for the integrated servo motors MAC400 and MAC800 now supports the MODBUS RTU protocol.

The implementation supports the Read Holding Registers and Write Multiple Registers commands, which will give R/W access to all motor registers at speeds up to 1 Mbit/s, though typically the PC standard rates of 9600..115200 and 230400 bits/s would be used.
The implementation uses the original V1.1 version of the MODBUS protocol for maximum compatibility. For systems requiring a 2-wire RS-485, the MAC00-P4 interface module is used. For 4-wire RS-422, the MAC00-FSx modules or one of the MAC00-Bx modules are used.
MODBUS is generally considered the most widely used serial communications protocol in the industry.

Watertight Integrated AC Servo Motors

JVL’s large MAC800 motor (750W) is now available in a model that offers IP65 protection. This makes the MAC800 well-suited for applications in more demanding environments common in the food processing industries.

The IP65 protection of the motor has been achieved by replacing the ventilator built into the cooling fins with large fins. In addition, a water-tight seal of the axle bearing has been achieved using an IP67 Rulon® Teflon bush. This has very low friction and requires no lubrication. The flange and shaft are made of stainless steel. Note that the expansion module used must also fulfil IP65 requirements. The motor in the picture is furthermore equipped with a brake.
