FAULHABER Expands BX4 Series Motors

The BX4 Series from FAULHABER has been expanded by twelve new 32mm Brushless DC-Servomotors. The features of the BX4 line are long operational lifetime, a high cogging-free output torque and no adhesive bonded joints. This makes them ideal for many applications like robotics, automation, medical, machinery, aerospace and aviation. The new BX4 series brushless motors are available in two lengths of 42 or 68 mm and in 12 or 24 V windings. The BX4 demonstrates excellent linearity with an impressive torque-to-volume ratio and provides a continuous output torque of 56 or 97 mNm.

Besides FAULHABER’s wide array of external control electronics, the BX4 series is now available with an integrated Speed Controller (SC) version, a typical +/- terminal (SCDC) version and an integrated Motion Controller (CS) version. All products with integrated electronics are equipped with current limiting capabilities (peak and continuous) to provide extra protection your motor and electronics. All BX4 models are reversible and a separate power supply is now available upon request.

The SCDC version of the BX4 has redefined simplicity. With only a dual terminal power supply connection on the back of the motor (typical +/- configuration), it can easily replace brushed type motors in applications demanding greater longevity. Furthermore, the SSDC version includes built-in reverse polarity protection.

The CS version, based on FAULHABER Motion Control Systems, has compact dimensions that benefit space constrained applications. It contains an RS232 serial interface and can be configured with FAULHABER’s downloadable Motion Manager software. The increased temperature range from -20 to +100 °C and the higher thermal limits allowing a continuous current of to 2.6A increase the versatility of the BX4 line (available with custom firmware upon request).

An integrated encoder, now offered in a robust housing, is available in four factory programmable resolutions from 32, 64, 128 to 256 pulses plus an index channel. A line driver version with differential signal output is now available upon request.

CUI’s AMT Encoder to be Paired with DC Motors from MicroMo

CUI Inc announces that their AMT Series modular encoder is now being carried by MicroMo Electronics, Inc., the North American distributor for the Faulhaber Group. The AMT utilizes CUI’s proprietary capacitive technology, which holds numerous advantages over the optical technology typically used in today’s modular encoders. The AMT’s design allows users to select from a range of resolutions via an on-board dip switch, creating flexibility for companies utilizing multiple encoders in their applications. Additionally, common problems associated with optical encoders, including fragility of the optical disk, led burn-out, limited temperature range, and high current consumption are eliminated by capacitive technology.

The AMT has been paired with several MicroMo DC motors ranging from 22 to 32 mm diameters and is being sold as a value added package. Dodd Disler, MicroMo’s Vice President and COO observes, “CUI provides a competitive encoder solution using unique technology. This provides another great tool for MicroMo to integrate into our custom motion solutions and value added drive systems.” The combination of the AMT and the MicroMo DC motor is ideal for indication and control of shaft velocity and direction of rotation as well as for positioning. The AMT102 is configured with a side or radial exit connector and the AMT103 is configured with a top or axial connector. The supply voltage for the encoder and the DC motor, as well as the output signals, are interfaced with separate cables for connection.

Matt McKenzie CUI’s President states, “MicroMo is an industry leader in its space and CUI greatly values their partnership.”

MicroMo Brushless DC Servomotors

MicroMo’s introduction of the BX4 series of brushless DC servomotors emphasizes its position as an innovative market leader in highly integrated miniature drive systems. Using the latest production methods, some specially developed by MicroMo, the company has come up with a modular design that is limited to just a few components and entirely eliminates the need for adhesive-bonded joints. Despite the compact dimensions, the new four-pole concept of the series ensures a high continuous torque of up to 12 mNm, with a flat gradient of the n/M aspect curve.

Notable features are the smooth running operation and the particularly low noise level. Thanks to its electronic commutation, the brushless servo motor series is characterized by a much longer service life than mechanically commutated drives. In the basic version the commutation is provided by an external control, the flexible motor concept of the BX4 series also offers versions with integrated speed controller or integrated encoder. The encoder version is available in four different preset resolutions: 32, 64, 128, or 256 quadrature impulses per revolution. It is available with an optional line driver and differential output signal. In addition to mechanical speed adjustment, the new planetary gearheads of the 22F series also allow a temporary torque increase up to 1500 mNm. Designed with one to four stages, the precision gearhead in steel 21 offers finely graduated reduction ratios, and the diameters can be combined in conformity with the BX4 drives.

World’s Smallest Rotary Encoder

MicroMo Electronics, Inc. announces the expansion of its encoder product line with the addition of its PA2-50. Leading the way again in miniature motor feedback development, MicroMo now provides a high-resolution, low current-draw optical encoder in a 6mm diameter package.

micromo pa2.jpg
Blending the best technologies, the PA2-50 expands possibilities for applications requiring miniature motors with encoders. Moving beyond magnetic technology, the PA2-50 provides an impressive 50 lines per revolution before quadrature utilizing optical technology. The increased resolution comes efficiently with a battery-friendly current draw of 8mA. Operating at 2.7 to 3.3V DC, low-voltage battery applications continue running longer with more robust feedback signal reliability.

The PA2-50 raises expectations by using leading-edge technologies. By incorporating the smallest optical encoder, Avago’s AEDR 8400 provides the foundation for consistent, accurate, and high resolution that cannot be matched by magnetic encoders. Optimized for the AEDR 8400, a custom-designed code wheel maximizes the reflected light increasing the system’s efficiency and signal reliability.

PA2-50 encoders assembled to 6mm diameter coreless motors are immediately available from stock with a 24 – 48 hour turnaround.
