R08 Planetary Gearhead from Portescap

WEST CHESTER, PA – Portescap introduces the R08 Planetary Gearhead, an incredibly robust gearhead that delivers high continuous torque of 0.05 Nm within a smaller overall envelope of 8mm than its comparable models. Portescap’s inherent design features provide increased gearhead life and durability making it capable of delivering twice the radial load carrying capacity (upto 10N) when compared to competitive models. The standard gearbox is available from 4 to 256 ratios which can be further extended to higher ratios of 4096. The R08 gearhead can be coupled with Brush DC, Brushless and Stepper motors in their respective frame sizes. It can also be customized to meet specific customer application requirements.

Design improvements include a unique crimping process performed along with the press fit that significantly increases strength and shock absorption capacity. Users will also benefit from a monobloc shaft that reduces the total number of components thus reducing the cost of ownership and the metallic tube which lowers noise, while increasing the overall robustness and torque output of the complete assembly.
The small frame size, robust design and high torque output makes R08 planetary gearheads well suited for use in medical applications such as insulin/implantable pumps, imaging (collimators, radiography) and biotic fingers, security and access applications such as door locks, cameras and alarm systems, instrumentation applications such as industrial robots, and aerospace and defense applications such as small robotics for underwater particle or mine detection.

WOOD DALE, IL – Thomson introduces XTRUE™ True Planetary Gearheads. Available in 40mm, 60mm, 80mm, 120mm and 160mm frame sizes, XTRUE True Planetary Gearheads are specifically engineered to move large loads more easily and quietly with True Planetary™ gearing through improved load capacity and lower backlash. They deliver precise 13 arc-mins operation, with torque capacity up to 876 Nm and ratio availability of 3:1 through 100:1. XTRUE True Planetary Gearheads feature a tapped face output that enables easy, drop-in replacement for similarly configured European gearheads.

Users will benefit from greater machine uptime with the Micron flexible RediMount™ mounting system, which enables the gearhead to be mounted to any motor in three easy steps – simply align, mount and tighten. All XTRUE components are RoHS-compliant (EU Directive 2002/95/EC), helping users to “go green” with their machine.

Coaxial-Drive Planetary Gearhead

The low noise coaxial-drive (Koaxdrive) KD 32 planetary gearhead from maxon motor is setting new standards in operating noise and torque levels. Measuring 32 mm in diameter and with a torque of 6.5 Nm, it is ideal for use in noise-sensitive, highly demanding applications.
The new Koaxdrive KD 32 combines the best of two proven gearing technologies, namely worm and planetary gearing. Special attention has been focused on the first gear stage, as this is where the greatest peripheral speeds occur and therefore noise. Our completely new, patent-protected design has enabled us to substantially reduce this noise. The worm-formed motor pinion drives the three offset planetary wheels interlocking with the internal gear which has straight cut teeth. The plastic planetary wheels are largely responsible for reducing noise levels. All additional stages are set out as a completely “normal” straight-cut planetary gearhead. This unique torque conversion makes operation very quiet – even with high loads.

With an outer diameter of only 32 mm and a coaxial arrangement on the drive and output shaft, the Koaxdrive is designed for compact applications. A number of efficiency levels with the same reduction ratio increases the wide variety of applications. In the 11:1 to 1091:1 range, many reduction ratios are available as standard. maxon motor also offers high reduction ratios in one stage. A new, innovative coupling element is assembled on the motor side so that the motor shaft is not subjected to axial load. Input speeds of up to 8,000 RPM can easily be reached.
maxon’s modular system enables the Koaxdrive KD 32 to be assembled with various maxon motors. These low-noise combinations are ideal for hand tools and instruments that are used principally on or near patients in the medical technology sector.
