ISD860 Exploits the Power of TML

Technosoft unveiled its latest cost-effective, flexible servo drive, ISD860 that is based on the MotionChip™ DSP technology. The drive is developed specially for motion applications that need embedded high servo performance control, networking possibilities, intelligence and cost-optimized design. It is able to drive 31 A peak and 12 A continuous currents at a supply voltage from 12 VDC to 72 VDC with one PWM of 20 kHz frequency. ISD860 embeds Programmable logic controller (“PLC”), drive and motion controller functionality in one unit (measuring 136 x 84x 26 mm) and controls brushless, linear or DC motors up to 860 W continuous per 2.2 kW peak. Due to its advanced motion control algorithms, torque or speed over a wide array of dynamic conditions and a precise control of position can be achieved.

ISD860 can work in multi-axis, single-axis or stand alone configurations. Its motion programming, tuning and setup are simple with Technosoft Motion Language (“TML”) and EasyMotion Studio. Motion programming can be performed from a CAN master with ISD860, via PC/PLC, directly at drive level or using the motion library through a built-in motion controller. Its embedded TML has a high-level command protocol that can be used by the user through the on-board RS232/CAN serial interfaces. ISD860 CANopen version, supporting DSP-402 and DS-301 profiles, is also available. It can also be managed through analog inputs or programmable I/Os.

Multiple operations can be done with ISD860 using the TML language, such as changing motion modes and/or parameters, setting of various motion modes (PVT, profiles, PT, camming or electronic gearing, etc.), execution of program flow control or homing sequences. IDS860 can handle analog input signals and digital I/O, transfer data between axes and execute logic and arithmetic operations at the same time. The drive has the ability to control other axes through motion commands. In addition, ISD860 can synchronize all axes in a network or send commands to a group of axes.

IS23x-MA Intelligent Step Motors

Technosoft announces the new IS23x-MA Intelligent Step Motors, based on the MotionChip™ DSP Control Technology, specially adapted to distributed motion control applications with integrated intelligence.

These ready-to-run motors have a cost optimized design embedding stepper motor, power electronics, controller and interface into a single compact unit (61/96 x 57 x 57 mm), together with basic local digital and analog I/O signals and PLC functionalities. This structure significantly reduces the motor cabling through the machine and eliminates the usage of external setup analog components.

IS23x-MA have been developed in 2 motor lengths, offering 1 to 1.8 Nm permanent output torque and operated from a 12 to 48 V single power supply. High resolution settings to the equivalent of up to 256 microsteps / step can be used.

The motion programming can be done from a CAN / CANopen master via PC / PLC, either by using the appropriate motion library, or directly at motor level, using the built-in motion controller and the EasyMotion Studio platform. This greatly simplifies the master’s task: motion functions pre-stored in the motor memory can be called or executed via I/O signals.

IS23x are fully programmable to execute position or speed control. They include high-level trajectory generators for: profiles (S-curve, trapezoidal or PVT), contouring, electronic gearing and camming. Communication is done over CAN (CANopen / TMLCAN) or RS-232 networks.

For an off-the-shelf usage, the IS23x-DS motors (already configured to cover the usual operation modes and parameters) are available.

All these benefits – compactness, embedded intelligence and cost-effective design – make the IS23x a valuable motion control solution for all industrial applications where space is critical and the machines need to look neat and uncluttered. Thanks to the IS23x’s local intelligence, users can really simplify complex applications by distributing the intelligence between master and motors. Thus, instead of trying to command each step of an axis motion from the master, they can program the motors using TML to execute complex tasks and inform the master when these tasks have been completed.
