Piher International Corp. (www.piher-nacesa.com) has introduced its latest shaft angle rotary sensor that comes with a through-shaft design. Offered in an extremely thin package, the PST-360 Through-Hole Position Sensor also features an absolute position feedback of 360 degree.
The new sensor features a through-hole design that enables the sensor to fit over current bearing and shaft assemblies. It also integrates a proprietary ring magnet with the sealed Hall ASIC as its sensor element, a combination that does not depend on gears or any interfacing parts, effectively matching the final application’s durability requirements.
With a thickness of 9.8 mm, a body diameter of 37 mm and mounting hole spacing of 50.0 mm, the new sensors allows engineers to easily integrate a rotary sensor directly on the current shafts. A standard model of the sensor comes with a rotor that has a shaft design interior measuring 14.05 mm. The company also offers other custom rotor configurations that adapts with current OEM shafts to the PST-360 Sensor.
The robust design of the new sensor features a durable ring magnet surrounded by an encapsulated electronics. This allows the new sensors to be utilized in high humidity environments. The sensors are not sensitive to dirt or dust and can withstand high vibrant cycles since the ring magnet has no contact with the sensing electronics.
Designed with integrated redundancy, the sensors are suitable for use in a vast variety of construction, off-highway and agriculture device drive-by-wire applications. It can also be used for marine outboard steering and robotic controls, throttle control, material handling, automation equipment, electronic braking systems and medical devices.
