Applied Motion Products unveils compact STR2 Stepper Motor Drive

June 5, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor 1 Comment

Applied Motion Products (www.applied-motion.com), a company specializing in cost-effective, high precision motion control products, has proudly introduced a digital step and direction drive ideally suited for OEM applications that require basic step and direction control of a two-phase stepper motor.

The compact STR2 drive provides the step motor with a maximum output of 2.2 A per phase. It can also be used with various two-phase step motors, effectively enabling both the drive and the motor to achieve optimum performance.

Offering advanced microstepping performance, the company’s STR2 step motor drive is also equipped with sophisticated current control and anti-resonance — a feature that helps improve motor smoothness and torque across a wide speed range while electronically damping motor and system resonances.

Every STR2 step motor drive can operate in either Pulse/Pulse control or Step and Direction mode. To select between these two modes, users will simply have to move a jumper situated under the drive’s cover. With a 1.8º step motor (1/100 step), each STR2 drive can deliver a microstep of up to 20,000 steps/rev. It also offers Microstep Emulation, a feature that allows the STR2 drive to microstep the step motor whenever the command pulses are at low resolution.

Meanwhile, all drive setup is done through dip switches located on the drive’s side, including running current, motor selection, step resolution and idle current.

Applied Motion Products’ STR2 step motor drive is RoHS compliant and CE certified.

Great very small drive. It was easy to set up with the dip switches. It had a handy little quick setup guide which was nice. The motor ran very smooth and provided very good performance for the price. I would recommend this drive to others.
