Avago’s latest absolute encoder features a modular package

September 8, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Avago Technologies (www.avagotech.com), one of the world’s leading suppliers of analog interface components for industrial, consumer and commercial applications, has introduced the new AEAT-9000 ultra-precision absolute encoder, which delivers outstanding accuracy for smooth motor drive performance.

Available in a modular package, this high-resolution absolute optical encoder can be mounted in space-limited locations with several mounting requirements, effectively shortening assembly time and simplifying design.

The AEAT-9000 single-turn encoder provides a maximum of 17-bit resolution for accurate angle measurement in a full rotation of 360 degrees. The modular design of the encoder consists of a high-precision code disc and a read head module. Unlike traditional encoders, the AEAT-9000’s modular package allows it to be integrated directly on the motor, offering better overall performance and system cost savings. The absolute encoder leverages differential external and internal signal paths as it provides optimum noise cancellation for industrial environment’s robust system noise-immunity. This makes it suitable for factory automation equipment, high-precision test and measurement equipment, industrial and maritime valve control applications, servo motors and more.

With 2048 counts per rotation, the new AEAT-9000 absolute encoder offers precise positioning with two-channel true differential Sine/Cosine outputs as well as A/B incremental analog outputs. Its multiple output configurations provide flexibility to support both incremental and absolute position information. The encoder also comes with photo detectors for electrical alignment on the tilt and radial.

Additional features of the AEAT-9000 encoder includes on-chip interpolation and code correction that compensate for mounting tolerance, an integrated monitor track for monitoring LED light level and a selectable direction for Up/Down position counters.
