Baumer MA20 measuring wheel encoder delivers precise measuring results

August 13, 2012 By Stacy Combest Leave a Comment

Baumer (www.baumer.com), offers flexible, simple and reliable speed and position feedback for conveyor system with its all-new MA20 measuring wheel encoder.

Offering resolutions as high as 25,000 ppr, the two-in-one device seamlessly combines a highly precise measuring wheel and a high-resolution optical incremental encoder. Even at relatively low conveyor speeds, the encoder is still capable of delivering extremely precise measuring results.

At 200 mm in circumference, the MA20 measuring wheel encoder features a HEX switch, which allows users to choose from 16 predefined resolutions that range from 100 ppr to 25,000 ppr. Aside from reducing inventory requirements for manufacturers, these pre-set resolutions also make sure that the encoder meets the requirements of various applications. The multi-purpose encoder is equipped with a continuously adjustable contact pressure, ensures reliable surface contact without slip while eliminating measuring errors.

The wear-resistant measuring wheel also ensures remarkable adhesion to conveyor materials as it offers a vast array of rubber hardness with Shore durometer ranging from 40 to 70. Operating at supply voltages between 4.75 VDC and 30 VDC, the MA20 measuring wheel encoder comes with a pivoting, height-adjustable arm bracket that allows easy and quick installation as well as an eight-pin M12 connector.

In addition, the IP64-rated encoder can also withstand ambient temperatures ranging from -20°C to +85°C. This effectively makes the encoder suitable for use even in harsh environments.

The MA20 measuring wheel encoder is ideally suited for various applications within the food processing industry, such as labeling, packaging, furnace/oven and bottling applications. It can also facilitate textile, letter/parcel and printing applications.
