Beka’s new Profibus indicators ideal for hazardous and safe areas

March 7, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Beka Associates (www.beka.co.uk) has unveiled a new range of eight variable Profibus indicator with its large digits complementing the Profibus displays commonly used in pharmaceutical and petrochemical plants worldwide. The five new models consist of intrinsically safe and economical field and panel mounting models, field and panel mounting indicators for safe areas, and a field mounting type ‘n’ instrument for use in Zone 2 applications.

The new models offer large, easy to read five digit display with a 31 segment bar-graph. The indicator can display one out of eight pre-configured process variables by scrolling through the variables with the front panel up and down indicators push button.

The intrinsically safe field and panel mounting comes with IECEx, ATEX, cFM and FM certification allowing it to be installed in most gas hazardous areas. Its field mounting indicator also comes with dust certification. The BA444NDF offers Type nA, tD and nL approval, enabling installation without the need for galvanic isolators or Zener barriers, leading to reduced installation cost.

In addition, the field mounting units offer a robust IP66 GRP enclosure and an armored glass window ideal for installation in harsh offshore and industrial environments. Its separate terminal compartment provides forward facing terminals that simplify maintenance and installation.

Offering an IP66 front panel, the panel mounting indicators feature a 144 x 71 DIN enclosure and a gasket to seal the joint between the mounting panel and the instrument.

The Profibus indicator can be configured as a fieldbus node or as a fieldbus listener.

As a node, the fieldbus is configured through the fieldbus host, and as a listener, it is configured through the instrument’s pushbutton.
