Belden unveils new Profibus DP connectors

January 31, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Belden (www.belden.com) has announced the launch of its new Profibus DP connectors featuring a D-Sub and M12 interface with 180°, 35° or 90° cable outlets. All models support data rates of up to 12 Mbit/s and have compact die-cast zinc housings with active terminating resistor and test socket. They provide quick-connection technology that allows simple and secure connection of Profibus DP devices with M12 Profibus cord sets without the need for tools. This is designed to reduce downtime for equipment and machinery when faults occur, while production efficiency increases.

The Profibus DP connectors meet the standards for degree of protection IP30 and are fit for use in temperature ranges from -20° to +70° C. The Profibus DP connectors are available in the following housing dimensions (height x width x depth): 68 x 42 x 16.8 mm for 90° cable outlets; 59 x 45 x 16.8 mm for 35° cable outlets; and 84.8 x 35.6 x 16.8 mm for 180° cable outlets. The connectors’ die-cast zinc housing and special shielding geometry guarantee loss- and error-free data transmission.

Profibus DP connectors’ nine-pole D-Sub interfaces of the female and male connectors can connect decentralized I/O stations, high-level control systems, diagnostic devices or programming units. Its B-coded M12 interfaces serve as a Profibus output or input, and the signals can be daisychained through the output.

The connectors feature a slide switch, which activates the terminating resistor with the respective status provided through the position of the switch and the red and green color-coding on the housing. It also has an external Profibus terminating resistor, which can connect to the Profibus output port.
