B&R introduces certified digital servo drive safety system

March 1, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

B&R (www.br-automation.com) has proudly announced that its digital servo drive systems have been certified by the TÜV Rheinland. The certified servo drives offer reduced maximum impact energy produced (by a factor of 100) and error response times (by a factor of 10). With the latest servo drives, increased productivity with maximum safety and excellent machine dynamics are no longer a contradiction.

ACOPOSmulti-drive-units

Installed in all ACOPOSmulti drive units, the relay-free SafeMC safety circuit uses EN ISO 13849 certified digital encoders to monitor how the motor responds to the servo drive’s instructions. To avoid increasing response times, the electronics were fitted directly on the drive.

B&R’s servo drives provide external monitoring modules and eliminate the need for double wiring to offer optimum use of safety equipment. Together with the SafeMC, the ACOPOSmulti can be seamlessly installed in the existing system with the X20 Safe I/O and the SafeLOGIC safety controller. With this innovation, B&R became one of the first companies to offer a certified and intelligent drive safety function including a fully network-integrated safety system. The system not only improves the safety of the workplace, but also contributes to the machine’s efficiency, as well as increases its productivity.

The device’s programming functions are developed using SafeDESIGNER at B&R Automation Studio’s standard development environment. SafeMC components embedded with parameter chip including its autonomous configuration allow easy and fast configuration during service work.

Based on open network-based safety standard openSAFETY, the company’s synchronous servo motors and SafeMC with ACOPOSmulti provides a logical complement to integrated safety components portfolio for systems and machine manufacturing.
