Dunkermotor’s Bifurcated Wormetary™ gearmotors for CSP field

September 18, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Dunkermotor has created the Bifurcated Wormetary™ gearmotors — a family of gearmotors that can meet the application requirements in the field of Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) while offering other unique benefits.

The Bifurcated Wormetary™ gearmotors deliver two high-torque outputs from a single but efficient gearmotor. The motor itself features a unique long-life brush motor design that provides 28.5 N-cm (40.4 oz-in) of continuous torque, while only requiring a 60 volt input.

Aside from that, it also has an IP65 environmental protection and a special condensation prevention membrane for added durability and longer life.

The Bifurcated Wormetary gearing combines a pair of efficient planetary gearboxes with a right angle worm gear to turn the corner, delivering an overall reduction ratio of 529:1, without any excessive sacrifice in efficiency. Moreover, total reduction ratio of 50,000:1 can be attained with the Wormetary configuration.

Furthermore, the gearboxes share the load via sturdy 25mm output shafts and each side delivers a continuous torque output of 160 N-m (1,416 in-lbs), with a peak output of 320 N-m (2,832 in-lbs). At an overall ratio of 80:1, the Wormetary configuration is also 250 percent more energy-efficient than a single worm gearing.
