Elmo completes Functional Safety certification for Titanium servo drives

★ By Puja Mitra Leave a Comment

Elmo Motion Control has completed Functional Safety certification for its Titanium line of servo drives. The certification applies to products designed for industrial and harsh-environment applications.

The certification covers Titanium servo drives used by machine builders and system designers. The Functional Safety architecture includes 20 safety functions and supports safety levels up to SIL 3 under EN 61508, PL e and Category 4 under EN ISO 13849 and FSoE under IEC 61784-3.

Elmo’s Titanium products extend certified Functional Safety across Elmo’s Titanium servo-drive portfolio, from miniature industrial designs to ruggedized solutions engineered for demanding operating environments.

The certified Titanium servo-drive portfolio includes:

Industrial environment

The Industrial Servo Drive product line is designed to meet applicable industry standards and provide configurable performance for a range of motion-control applications.

  • Titanium Castanet / Titanium Solo Castanet — Compact dual-axis servo drives providing up to 1.2 kW per axis and 2.4 kW in total, with 2 × 15 A continuous current, 30 A peak current and voltage ratings up to 100 V.
  • Titanium Harmonica — Dual-axis servo drive providing up to 2.5 kW per axis and 5 kW in total, with either 2 × 25 A continuous current and 50 A peak current at up to 100 V, or 2 × 15 A continuous current and 20 A peak current at up to 200 V.

Special technology (harsh) environment

The Titanium harsh-environment servo drives are designed for operation in demanding conditions, including applications with extreme temperatures and other environmental challenges.

  • Titanium Lizard / Titanium Solo Lizard — Compact servo drives designed for harsh-environment applications, providing up to 1.2 kW per axis and 2.4 kW in total, with 2 × 15 A continuous current, 30 A peak current and voltage ratings up to 100 V.
  • Titanium Falcon — Harsh-environment servo drive providing up to 2.5 kW per axis and 5 kW in total, with either 2 × 25 A continuous current and 50 A peak current at up to 100 V, or 2 × 15 A continuous current and 20 A peak current at up to 200 V.

Together these products provide certified Functional Safety across the Titanium servo-drive portfolio including compact industrial models and drives designed for demanding operating environments.

The Titanium line includes servo drives with integrated Functional Safety technology, multi-core processing, advanced networking and compact single- and dual-axis configurations. The drives also use gallium nitride (GaN) power-switching technology to support fast switching, improved efficiency and compact product designs.

Functional Safety connectivity options include hardwired Safe Torque Off (STO), configurable Safe I/O, FSoE communication and hybrid architectures that combine local and network-based safety functions.

Integrating these functions into the servo drive can reduce the need for external safety components and additional cabling. It can also help machine designers simplify system architecture and reduce machine size.

The completed certification expands the safety options available to machine builders using the Titanium platform.

The Titanium line is intended for applications such as robotics, semiconductor manufacturing, industrial automation, autonomous systems and other motion-control systems that require compact designs, productivity, reliability and Functional Safety.

Elmo plans to expand the Titanium line with AC and DC drives covering different voltage, current and power requirements for single-axis and multi-axis applications. Additional products are in development and are planned for launch in 2027.
