Elmo introduces new servo drives and controller

★ By Puja Mitra Leave a Comment

Elmo has announced a new motion controller and new servo drives for industrial applications, including use in demanding operating conditions involving temperature, altitude, sea depth, humidity, and vibration. The products will be shown at the Elmo booth (S-3601) during Automate 2026 in Chicago, June 22–25.

The new products expand Elmo’s Platinum line and introduce the Titanium line, which adds multi-axis configurations, integrated intelligence, and functional safety features for compact motion systems. By implementing safety functions at the drive level, the products can reduce the amount of external safety hardware and cabling required.

Motion products with integrated safety features

The new products being shown at Automate include:

  • Titanium Castanet servo drive: Dual-axis servo drive with functional safety* in a compact form factor
  • Titanium Harmonica servo drive: Dual-axis servo drive with power ratings up to 50A/100V and 35A/200V, with functional safety*
  • Titanium Maestro motion controller: Multi-axis motion controller supporting up to 256 axes, with 16 axes operating at EtherCAT cycle times of 100 microseconds
  • Platinum Jori 30A/60A servo drives: Servo drives providing up to 20/40 kW of continuous power, with functional safety* and silicon carbide power stage technology
  • Platinum Cymbal servo drive: Servo drive in a rugged package with power output up to 17 kW and functional safety*

Titanium line for compact multi-axis design

The Titanium line is designed to support multi-axis configurations in a smaller footprint. For example, one Titanium Castanet can replace two Elmo Twitter servo drives in some applications. This can reduce overall system size and allow engineers to synchronize x/y positioning over a single bus instead of two separate buses.

These servo drives also incorporate a high-performance processor and use GaN (gallium nitride) technology to improve switching efficiency and support motor control applications that require compact size and integrated intelligence.

Servo drives for robotic and mobile systems

Elmo servo drives are used in robotic systems and related technologies, including automated guided vehicles (AGVs), autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), cobots, and exoskeletons. These applications often require multiple servo drives operating independently to control motor position, velocity, and torque while maintaining synchronized system motion.

In some systems, different types of servo drives may be needed to support motors of different sizes, from larger motors used in cobot motion to smaller motors used in robotic hand assemblies.

To support these requirements, Elmo servo drives offer:

  • Compact size to reduce system footprint
  • High power density for applications with limited space
  • Up to 17 certified functional safety features
  • High-precision motor control for coordinated motion
  • Multi-axis capability to reduce system size and simplify synchronization
  • Standard product availability with customization options where needed
  • Production-scale availability for higher-volume applications

Software support tools

Elmo supports its servo drives with Elmo Application Studio III (EASIII) and Composer2 software, which allow machine designers to develop, test, and implement control algorithms.
