New software helps designers pick suitable enclosure cooling

April 13, 2015 By Lisa Eitel Leave a Comment

Rittal-RiTherm-app-and-softwareRittal now offers designers an app to calculate the right amount of cooling and fans required for electronic enclosures.

The RiTherm app for Android and iPhones handles time-consuming calculations. Then it lets designers quickly and easily email results to colleagues for action or documentation.

A user-friendly interface also lets users access the app from their smartphones to get the most suitable (and correctly dimensioned) climate-control components for the application at hand.

“With the density of equipment in enclosures increasing, our customers have asked for a simple and easy tool to calculate the cooling equipment,” said Glenn Wishnew, manager, product management for Rittal.

“The heat produced by this componentry can rapidly reach temperatures that can damage them, drastically reduce their lifespan or even lead to equipment shutdown. Having an app available on one’s phone provides much more assurance and peace-of-mind when designing a system cooling specification.”

All evaluations in the app are closely based on the requirements of IEC/TR 60 890 AMD 1/02.95 and DIN 3168 for enclosure cooling units.

Ultimately, the app recommends specific Rittal climate-control options — cooling and heating. These include efficient and economical solutions for myriad situations. From filter fans to complex air conditioning systems, cooling components include air conditioners with nano-coatings on the condenser coils to boost performance … while cutting energy usage and costs by as much as 40% — and reducing carbon emissions by up to 2,000 lb per unit every year. This approach can also reduce maintenance and extend unit life. Filter fans are available in myriad sizes and configurations and heaters can be installed with or without fans in ranges from 34 to 2,730 BTU.
