Encoder Products Company (EPC), a manufacturer of rotary incremental and absolute encoders, has been certified as a Historically Underutilized Business Zone (HUBZone) small business by the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). The certification supports EPC’s participation in federal contracting programs and contributes to economic development in designated HUBZone areas.
EPC holds contracts with the United States Air Force (USAF) for ordnance components, where its encoders supply feedback for mission applications. With its HUBZone certification, EPC is eligible to compete for set-aside contracts and to receive consideration in full and open contract competitions. The federal government aims to award at least 3% of prime contract dollars each year to HUBZone-certified firms, a category that now includes EPC.
The certification aligns with the company’s goal of contributing to the local community and allows EPC to qualify for additional federal contracting opportunities. The designation will enable the company to apply its technical capabilities to a broader range of government projects.
While continuing to serve the USAF with high-quality ordnance components, EPC is targeting new markets where precision, speed, position, or direction feedback is essential. These include:
- Radar systems: Encoders are essential for accurate antenna positioning and tracking in various radar applications.
- Turrets and Gimbals: Precise motion control for aiming and stabilization in defense systems requires robust and accurate encoders.
- Other Flight and Ordnance applications: EPC aims to provide encoder solutions for a broader spectrum of aerospace and defense platforms requiring high-performance feedback.
EPC’s facility in Sagle, Idaho, serves as the headquarters for the Americas Division and houses most of the company’s global manufacturing as well as its encoder research and development operations. With the addition of HUBZone certification, EPC is positioned for continued growth and increased participation in the federal sector.
