Festo launches AX Motion Insights Electric for AI monitoring

November 5, 2025 By Puja Mitra Leave a Comment

Festo has introduced Festo AX Motion Insights Electric, an AI-based monitoring and predictive maintenance tool for electric axes and servo drives. The system is designed to reduce unplanned machine downtime by identifying wear and anomalies early. It supports improved reliability and operational efficiency in industrial environments.

Festo AI-powered electric automation monitoring cuts machine downtime

Motion Insights Electric enables maintenance teams to schedule tasks in advance, reducing the risk of unexpected downtime. The platform offers the flexibility of on-premises computing, giving end users full control over their data and deployment. This is an open system and works with Festo and third-party components. The AX platform is designed for straightforward use and smooth integration, allowing customers to adopt AI and data-driven tools as part of their digital transformation efforts.

A key feature of Motion Insights Electric is its integration with Festo’s Smartenance maintenance management system. Motion Insights Electric identifies when maintenance is required, while Smartenance manages the corresponding tasks. Together, they provide a connected workflow that links predictive insights with maintenance actions.

Motion Insights Electric is designed for straightforward setup and operation. The app’s compatibility with Festo’s CMMT multiprotocol servo drives, along with its clear interface and standardized AI models, makes the technology accessible to a wider range of users. This can help original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and end-use companies that are early in their digital adoption process by reducing implementation complexity and minimizing the need for specialized data science knowledge. OEMs and end users can download, install, and integrate the app independently.

Festo AX Motion Insights Electric joins the Festo AX Motion Insights Pneumatics app, which focuses on pneumatic components, and Festo AX Data Access, which makes operation technology (OT) data available for information technology (IT) analysis. These apps can be used singly or in combination. CODI Manufacturing, Littleton, Colorado, recently installed all three on its new, compact gantry palletizer to give customers the ultimate in uptime and insights into operational efficiency.

The apps can be deployed on-premises using standard hardware and container technology like Docker. Containerization allows the apps to be deployed flexibly on various computing environments, including industrial PCs, virtual machines, servers and edge devices. Insights Electric and Insights Pneumatic are available through a subscription model, with time-limited options of three and five years planned for release at the end of 2025. Data Access is offered under a perpetual license.

Through Festo App World, customers can select a license package based on the number of servo drives they want to monitor. Unlike competitors that provide a single software tool, Festo AX apps are designed to integrate with the company’s electrical and pneumatic components. This approach simplifies system integration and provides one source for technical support.
