FOOKE GmbH’s new five-axis gantry milling machine

July 16, 2010 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

FOOKE GmbH (www.fooke.de) is proud to introduce the ENDURA 700 Linear Gantry Milling Machine – the latest addition to its family of modular-designed five-axis high-speed linear gantry milling machines. They are best suited for the machining of five sides of parts made from ureol, plastic, aluminum and composite materials (CFRP and GRP), as well as finishing steel and cast materials.

The ENDURA products meet the need for high-speed milling machines by automotive industry, rail transportation, aerospace and their subcontractors, as well as prototype construction, model-making, mold-making and tool-making.

The applications demand a very tight positional control of milling tools at the work space. To meet these strict requirements, FOOKE GmbH provided the first equipment with volumetric compensation system (VCS) in the market. VCS is available with either the Heidenhain or Siemens control.

The ENDURA 900LINEAR products offer axis travel in X-direction of up to 20m, in Y-direction of up to 4m and in Z-direction of up to 2m. Its larger, custom machines are designed for specific applications. These products are frequently used in high-speed rail applications.

The highly rigid ENDURA machine structure is incorporated with linear motors to improve acceleration and axis travel speed, over three times compared to conventionally driven machine tools.

Using linear motors as feed drive units to eliminate several typical mechanical wear elements, such as ballscrews, bearings, gears and rack-and-pinion systems, has substantially increased the drive rigidity. This is the main reason for the increased machine dynamics: acceleration values of 5m/sec² on the path contour can be achieved easily.
