Gigabit Ethernet Switch from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms

April 1, 2009 By Miles Budimir Leave a Comment

The NETernity™ CP981RC CompactPCI Gigabit Ethernet Switch from GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms is a 12- or 24-port unmanaged Layer-2 switch designed to provide a high performance, cost-effective solution that responds to the growing pervasiveness of Ethernet as the backbone technology on which modern communications networks are built.

The CP981RC is a 6U CompactPCI switch, conforming to industry standards that enable it to be embedded within the majority of today’s network systems in telecommunications, industry and defense. With its high density 12- and 24-port capability, the CP981RC lets users configure the maximum number of communication ports within a single or dual CompactPCI slot, making for highly cost-effective solutions. The provision of front I/O in an unmanaged switch delivers excellent configuration flexibility and accessibility for improved ease of use. The CP981RC’s flexibility is further enhanced by support for 10BaseT, 100BaseTX and1000BaseT, 1000BaseSX or 1000LX interfaces. Both copper and fiber interfaces can be supported on the same switch, letting users specify the solution that most precisely meets their needs. The CP981RC also supports hot-swap capability, so that it is field replaceable while the system is running, ensuring maximum network availability and improved user service.

NETernity Ethernet switches are available in a variety of form factors, interfaces, levels of ruggedness, port configurations, media support, and types of management. Fully Managed Layer 2/3+ and Managed Layer 2 switches provide control and monitoring capabilities via local or remote access. Unmanaged switches are Layer 2 switches with no operator interfacing and are designed for quick deployment in well-defined applications.
