Heason Technology’s miniature rotary motor features ceramic motor technology

May 3, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

A direct-drive solution from Heason Technology’s (www.heason.com) Nanomotion has been released in the form of a 15 mm diameter miniature precision rotary servo motor. Equipped with the operating characteristics of the ceramic motor specialists technology, the ER15 rotary piezo motor offers inherent braking while eliminating servo dither when in a static position.

The motor is fitted with four tiny Edge ceramic linear motor components in a backlash and hysteresis free arrangement, making it ideal for use in rotary motion applications found in space restricted environment where the stability as well as the ability to maintain a position without needing a gearbox is a crucial factor. A marvel in miniaturization, Nanomotion’s Edge ceramic motor is said to be the smallest industrial piezo motor available in the marketplace today.

The ER15 rotary piezo motor delivers an output torque of up to 10 mNm when it is aimed at shutter/aperture controls, autofocus/zoom modules, filter changers as well as pan and tilt modules. Measuring around 15 mm in diameter and 22 mm in length, the motor is smaller than a rated conventional brushless and DC bushed motors. It also offers a better space-saving solution, given its possible increased length of a gearbox.

Offered with the miniature board-based XCD drive and servo control, the ER 15 can also be driven using conventional drives, when necessary. There is a provision for an optional motor or rotary encoder fitted at the rear or servo feedback supported by an externally mounted rotary or linear encoder.
