HMS Industrial Networks created a new family of gateways that can connect Profinet IRT (Isochronous Real Time) to different kinds of industrial networks such as CANopen, Profibus, DeviceNet, EtherNet/IP and ControlNet — the new-generation Anybus X-gateways.

These gateways enable machine builders and plant owners to transfer to real time Profinet without having to replace their existing machinery.

The previous models of Anybus X-gateway have long been able to link Profinet to fieldbus and other industrial Ethernet networks. Utilizing both copper cabling and fiber-optics, the new gateways can be connected to Profinet IRT; while using copper cables, these gateways can connect to ControlNet, EtherNet/IP and DeviceNet.

On top of that, the new models of Anybus X-gateways can link Profibus and CANopen via fiber optics.

These gateways can also copy I/O data between Profinet IRT and other industrial networks. I/O sizes and other gateway configurations can be configured utilizing a Windows-based terminal interface, eliminating the need for any programming.

These new gateways also deliver a baud rate of 100Mbit/s (full duplex). They can also utilize two SC-RJ connectors (fiber optic), or two RJ-45 connectors (copper), as well as supporting installations either ring or in-line topologies. In addition, they also feature an integrated two-port IRT switch, eliminating the need for external switches.

Furthermore, these gateways can link existing machinery and subsystems that are already networked but need to be integrated in the in new networks. This eliminates the need for machine builders to set-up the connectivity themselves.
