Igus (www.igus.com) has announced that its xiros polymer ball bearings are lubricant and maintenance-free, enabling them to withstand temperatures of up to 150°C. Light weight and non-magnetic, these highly corrosion-resistant bearings can also be cleaned and washed.
The xiros ball bearings offer an economic alternative for various applications where the use of traditional metal ball bearings is problematic. The applications range from pumps and measurement machines, medical equipment to transport and conveying technology, specifically in the industrial sectors of food, chemical, packaging and laboratories.
“These are applications where the focus is not on maximum load and speed, but on other features such as chemical resistance or submerged components,” said Matthew Aldridge of igus UK.
“In such applications, lubricants can be washed out of the metallic, sealed and permanently lubricated ball bearings, so that corrosion becomes a significant problem.”
Aside from lack of corrosion and lubricant, the avoidance of magnetism, weight reduction, longer service life and good friction coefficients are added benefits to the use of the new xiros plastic bearings.
Comprised of all-purpose ball bearing material xirodur B180, high-temperature xirodur A500 and low-price chemical resistant xirodur C160, igus’ all-new bearing also takes advantage of xirdur D180 and xirodur F180.
A conductive polymer that offers electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, xirodur F180 enables bearings to be utilized permanently even at temperatures of up to 80°C, making them ideally suited for use in various applications such as in paper processing, textile, semiconductor and glass industries.
Meanwhile, xirodur D180 is four times more wear-resistant than xirodur B180. Its inner and outer ring consists of high-performance material, while its cage is made of PA.
