Lafert high-performance standalone (HPS) permanent-magnet ac motors boost design efficiency

February 16, 2017 By Lisa Eitel Leave a Comment

HPS Series permanent magnet (PM) synchronous ac motors from Lafert North America deliver IE4 Super Premium energy efficiency while reducing motor size and weight by 50% in some cases.
HPS Series motors combine the mechanical design of standard induction motors with the performance and efficiency of brushless servo motors. The TEFC motor design results from decades of Lafert expertise in the design and manufacture of both motor types.

HPS Series motors come in four IEC frame sizes (71, 90, 112, and 132) and are suitable for running motor-driven conveyor systems; packaging equipment; mobile equipment; and HVACR equipment such as pumps, fans, compressors and blowers where system size, weight or operating costs are key design considerations.

The motors get IE4 Super Premium efficiency for energy savings to 14% when compared to EISA Premium ac motors. The efficient performance of HPS Series motors lets equipment manufacturers exceed minimum energy performance standards (MEPS) while reducing ownership costs.

What’s more, the motor’s high power density allows for a frame size that’s up to two sizes smaller than traditional designs. That’s thanks to a design with surface-mounted permanent magnets (SMPM) on the rotor. The design trims dimensions and weight by 50% compared to other aluminum-bodied motors. The assembly includes premium shaft bearings to accommodate the high power density. There’s also higher space and weight savings than EISA Premium Efficient motor designs with rolled-steel or cast-iron construction.

HPS Series motors are manufactured by Lafert in Italy in accordance with ISO 9001. The manufacturer makes versions for 0.55 to 30 kW (at 1,500, 1,800, 3,000, 3,600, and 4,500 rpm) in volume production or other versions to custom specifications.
