Maxon Motor introduces EPOS3 70/10 EtherCAT digital positioning controller

May 21, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Maxon Motor Australia (www.maxonmotor.com.au) has designed its EPOS3 70/10 EtherCAT digital positioning controller to meet the demands of synchronized multi-axis systems.

Delivering excellent uniform running for motors fitted with incremental encoders, the EPOS3 70/10 EtherCAT features a nominal power supply voltage range of between 11 and 70 VDC. During acceleration, it offers a continuous output current of 10 A and deceleration of up to 25 A.

Ideally suited for DC and EC motors with up to 700 Watt power, the compact EPOS3 70/10 EtherCAT can be easily integrated as a slave into EtherCAT protocol-based Ethernet networks as well as with device-specific configuration guide and device description file in a Beckhoff-TwinCAT environment.

The EPOS3 70/10 EtherCAT digital positioning controllers are also suitable for servo motors as it provides built-in motor chokes and motor filters for EMC-conform operation, while its prefabricated cables and accessories help simplify commissioning and installation.

In addition, its comprehensive circuitry protects it against excess temperature, overcurrent, overvoltage and undervoltage, voltage transients and short-circuits in the motor cable. Meanwhile, the adjustable current limitation of the EPOS3 70/10 protect its motor and load as well as its digital inputs and outputs.

Serving as user interface for effective parameterization, the digital positioning controller’s EPOS Studio utilizes intuitively designed wizards and various smart and clever functions to simplify tasks such as automatic controller commissioning, firmware download, test and data recording and I/O configuration.

For diagnostics and commissioning, a USB 2.0 port is also offered by Maxon Motor as an alternative to the Ethernet interface.
