Maxon’s Right Angle Spiroid Gear maximizes torque in tiny space

October 2, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Maxon Precision Motors Inc. has unveiled the Right Angle Spiroid® Gears — the latest addition to the company’s family of motion control products that deliver maximum torque in small spaces.

Comprising 22mm and 38mm right angle gearheads, the Right Angle Spiroid® Gears are suited for various applications and offer end users with many benefits such as a compact size, light weight and high torque capability.

Aside from that, these gearheads were designed to provide a controllable 360-degree right angle output for the most stringent applications. The Right Angle Spiroid® Gear Series also integrated the Spiroid® technology into its design to provide users with various performance benefits.

Capabilities include very high torque transmission, extreme stiffness and low deflection with huge applied loads, as well as low-backslash and a noise-free operation. The Right Angle Spiroid® Gear Series can also easily attain an absolute output shaft position and has an encoder mounting option.

Apart from its up to 3:1 contact ratio, these gearheads can be orientated in any angle (360 degrees) at any time. The gearhead family also comes in different versions including Back-drivable (4:1 ratio) and Non-back drivable (31:1 ratio) variants.

Furthermore, these right angle gearheads can also be installed directly into Maxon’s GP22 and GP32 planetary gearheads, resulting in a broad range of attainable gear reductions. The gearhead and motor combinations are suited to various applications, especially those that require an output shaft perpendicular to the motor axis.
