Metronix ARS 2000 FS boost machine performance

Metronix (www.metronix.de) has unveiled the ARS 2000 FS, an Ethernet-compatible servo drive that can help reduce system building costs and optimize performance in various industrial automation applications.

Doubling the peak current drive offered by comparable drives, the new drive allows machine builders to significantly boost acceleration times. Unlike other servo drives which offers an overcurrent capability of only ~2 to 2.5 times its continuous output rating, Metronix ARS 200 FS delivers four times of its overcurrent capability rating. This capability enables users to increase the speed of moves as well as the overall throughput of the machine.

“This capability provides automation builders with a means of reducing machine cycle times for faster payback, and potentially reducing bill-of-materials costs as well,” said Frank Essmann, Product Manager at Metronix.

“Some simple calculations at the start of a machine design project are all that’s needed to evaluate the potential improvements that can be gained.”

Faster acceleration can significantly impact the machine’s cycle times, depending on the motion profiles and application used. The new drive can reduce the times needed to accelerate to full speed when utilizing common motion profiles like S-curves or trapezoids.

Available in two case sizes of 59 mm or 69 mm, Metronix’ ARS 2000 FS is a range of compact panel/cabinet-mounting drives that is offered with a selection of six three- or single-phase continuous output power ratings of between 0.5 and 6 kVA. The drives’ universal encoder interfacing capability allows easy connection to analog/digital incremental encoders, resolvers and single/multiturn absolute encoders such as EnDat or Hiperface.

Featuring an integrated EMC filter, brake resistor and a built-in brake chopper, the drives’ standard communication interfaces include USB, Ethernet and the CAN fieldbus.
