NET Concentrator System acts as single or dual MODBUS master

October 19, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Moore Industries (www.miinet.com) has unveiled its updated NET Concentrator System® (NCS), which offers users with increased options for communications. The addition of the EMM Interface Module provides the process control as well as the distributed I/O network with dual, independent MODBUS RTU (RS-485) ports and Ethernet (MODBUS/TCP) port as standard.

The MODBUS RTU ports can be both configured, as MODBUS master ports to enable the NCS to poll other MODBUS RTU slaves using the network polling functions of a common MODBUS master.

Prior to the update, the NCS serves as a MODBUS slave only. The update allowed the NCS to be utilized as either a dual or single MODBUS master, enabling it to provide Ethernet as well as dual MODBUS RTU master/slave communications simultaneously.

The latest update has also streamlined the configuration process of the NCS.  Thus, users can now select, view and set operating parameters within minutes for both dual MODBUS and Ethernet parameters using the Internet Explorer Web browser or Moore Industries’ free Intelligent PC Configuration Software.

The NCS offers a real-time signal gateway between factory floor or field and control strategies, making it suitable for use in demanding industrial settings and applications, including the harshest temperature settings. It features an ambient temperature range of -40°C to +85°C, which permits it to be installed in conditions well beyond the capabilities of similar systems.

The NCS also features a 20-bit input as well as an 18-bit output resolution, which exceeds or matches the accuracy of even the most precise process transmitters offered on the market.
