Omron’s new Accurax G5 servo drives

October 13, 2010 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Omron (www.omron.com) has unveiled its new Accurax G5 servo drives that allow users to achieve cabinet space savings of up to 50 percent. The drives combine performance – millisecond settling times and sub-micron accuracy – with built-in features such as communication and safety solutions.

The Accurax G5 features an external device monitoring output and two safety inputs, which can be connected to another drive even without additional safety relays. A total of eight drives can be linked to a single relay, significantly reducing wiring and hardware costs. The drives’ safety torque off function meets the PL-d in line with ISO13849, Cat 3 in line with EN954 and SIL2 in line with EN61508.

The drives have three types of control: EtherCAT, Analogue/Pulse, and MLII (Mechatrolink-II). They also support full-closed loop operation for specific applications where additional accuracy is required and include advanced tuning algorithms featuring a disturbance observer, an anti-vibration function and a torque feed-forward function to minimize following error.

Easy integration of these drives with, for instance, NS-series operator interface terminals and machine controllers, are guaranteed by their support into the automation architecture of Omron. It is based on Ethernet connectivity and readily configured with CX-Drive component of the CX-One software suite from Omron.

The Accurax G5 is complemented by motors with 10-pole construction to attain a 40-percent reduction in cogging. The drives, which have an IP67 ingress protection rating, feature an integrated 20-bit encoder. Omron’s drives in the Accurax G5 range are available for 230V single-phase operation with ratings from 50W to 1,5kW, and for 400V three-phase operation with ratings from 400W to 5kW.
