Pepperl+Fuchs introduces the G10 family of Ultra-Compact I/O Modules

January 19, 2011 By Heather Brown Leave a Comment

Pepperl+Fuchs introduces the G10 family of Ultra-Compact I/O Modules with Connect & Done technology that can eliminate mounting requirements in many applications.  The world’s smallest AS-Interface I/O module with IP68/69K protection, at just 40 mm x 27 mm x 22mm the G10 fits easily into any cable duct and enables quick, convenient sensor connections using the integrated M12 pigtails.

“With its tiny footprint, this exceptionally robust module allows mounting in the most space-confined applications.  In fact, simply placing the G10 inside the cable tray may eliminate mounting entirely – that’s the power and simplicity of ‘connect and done’ functionality,” says Helge Hornis, Manager Intelligent Systems, Pepperl+Fuchs.

The robust single-piece housing makes use of a patented and field-proven hinged cover design that simplifies connectivity, ensures reliable contact to the AS-Interface flat cable, and typically eliminates any additional mounting requirements.  For applications where mounting is required, two integrated M4 screw holes are provided.  The G10 has no gaskets, inserts, separate housing parts, or additional screws that are easily lost.

“As with all other AS-Interface modules, Pepperl+Fuchs  uses high-quality, machined, gold-plated piercing contacts that, unlike the cheap stamped and zinc-coated alternative, provide superior long-term contact stability without damaging the internal strands of the AS-Interface cable,” explains Hornis.  “Placed around each of the piercing contacts is a concentric seal contour that provides high seal contact pressure, a main contributor to the reliable IP68/69K protection, even after many years of service.”

Sensors are powered from the yellow AS-Interface cable, and a continuous output current of up to 1 A can be supplied from AUX power.  All versions of the G10 ultra-compact I/O module family are equipped with bright diagnostic and status LEDs that are visible from all directions.  The G10 family also follows the latest AS-Interface specification 3.0.
