Phoenix Contact releases FL switch SMN 6TX/2POF-PN

January 5, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Phoenix Contact (www.phoenixcontact.com) is proud to announce the release of its all-new FL switch SMN 6TX/2POF-PN in addition to six RJ-45-ports. The switch offers two diagnostics-capable POF interfaces within narrow control cabinet-friendly housing. The HCS and polymer fibers can be connected through the fiber-optic interfaces with SCRJ connections. The optical fibers facilitate easy and user-friendly assembly in the field.

By combining the switch with the HCS fibers with gradient index FL FOC PN-C-HCS-GI-200/230, transmission distances of up to 250 meters can be achieved. Fiber-optic cable connectors can be assembled on site in less than two minutes. Complex gluing, polishing and crimping are no longer required. With the use of integrated fiber-optic diagnostics, FL switch supports operators when troubleshooting faults, by which the optical system reserve is displayed and the received power is continually measured in the Web-based management system using a Profinet communication or SNMP object. The FL switch can be utilized as a Profinet I/O device with a PDEV function and can also be used in an MRP environment or in redundant Ethernet networks with RSTP Fast Ring Detection.

For Ethernet/IP networks, the switch has multicast filtering with an IGMP snooping function. Connection to switches in the backbone area can be established not only through copper interfaces but also through POF-SCRJ interfaces with the GIHCS fiber-optic cable.
