Chat with Eric Rice of Applied Motion about new motors
In another fun visit, I got to chat with Eric Rice of Applied Motion about his company’s closed-loop stepper motor — in increasing demand in an array of industries. (Click on the lower right image below of Eric holding one of these motors.) The electronics and encoder are inside the motor. This is typical of a lot of small integrated motors. What really sets the Applied Motion motor apart though is the fact that there are versions that now use Power over Ethernet or PoE. So, the user simply plugs an Ethernet cord into the end of the motor to get both communications and power. No additional controller or power supply is required.
Eric also explained how his company offers custom boards for specialty applications. (One example is in the lower right here.) Click on the images to enlarge.
