Siemens unveils new Sinamics DC Master

February 13, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Siemens has unveiled its latest Sinamics DC Master (DCM) base drive, which features drives rated between 15A and 850A continuous current.

Unlike the past two generations of base drives, the new product delivers more power per panel in exactly the same footprint. In addition, connecting the DC converters in parallel increases the rated direct current.

The Sinamics DC Master technology integrates closed-loop control, open-loop control and power unit in one device, making it a compact device that is ideally suited to heavy machine applications.

Sinamics DCM Base Drive’s standard features include output DC fuses (regen only), input fuses, control transformer, PROFIBUS, AC line contactors, BOP20, 65KA SCCR rating as well as UL508A Certification.

DC technology is usually adopted for industrial main drives since it offers reliable control of functions such as speed and torque, while also allowing high rotational accuracy and wide-ranging speed control. The company’s Sinamics drives are designed with a converter for DC applications. This implies that the other expansions and functions of the Sinamics product line are also offered.

Siemens offer the new pre-wired unit fully-tested and complete with all the necessary components fitted on the back panel. The flexible Sinamics DC Master base drives offer space-constrained new installations and retrofits a cost-effective solution, which will likely be effective for end-users as well as third parties such as Siemens solution partners and system integrators.
