Split Universal Mounting Kit protects bearings of VFD-driven motors

January 20, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Electro Static Technology (www.est-static.com) has announced that the split universal mounting kit variant of AEGIS SGR Bearing Protection Ring protects the VFD-driven motors’ bearings from electrical damage, while allowing easy and quick retrofitting of the ring on almost any AC motor shaft without the need of decoupling the attached equipment.

Ideal for HVAC plant maintenance departments and service contractors, the Split uKIT is designed to accommodate shaft shoulders, slingers and other end bell protrusions. The halves of its split AEGIS ring are held together by a unique hinge, which permits the split AEGIS ring to be easily opened on one side. It is then closed and fastened together with an integrated adhesive-backed aluminium tabs, offering rigidity to the assembled ring.

The kit, which is ordered based on the frame size of the motor, includes the correct size split AEGIS grounding ring as well as the mounting hardware, such as washers, screws, four kinds of brackets and Allen wrenches, for use in various combinations for easy mounting of the ring on any IEC or NEMA motor faceplate.

AEGIS® rings prevent costly motor replacements/repairs, downtime and electrical bearing damage by channelling VFD-induced bearing currents safely to the ground. Its conductive microfibers are securely embedded in continuous circumferential rows in the ring’s patented AEGIS FiberLock channel, surrounding the motor shaft completely while providing harmful shaft currents with numerous discharge points. Creating the path of least resistance, this unique design effectively redirects the currents away from the bearings to the ground. To prevent breakage and minimize wear, the microfibers have been specially developed for exceptional flexibility and conductivity.
