Stainless Steel W Series Hygienic servo motor delivers reliable operation

May 2, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Kollmorgen (www.kollmorgen.com) has unveiled an all-stainless steel IP69K-sealed hygienic servomotor, the Stainless Steel W Series motor. The round housing design of the motor promotes long life as well as reliable operation, making it ideal for use in harsh pharmaceutical, food and beverage applications.

Generally, pharmaceutical, food and beverage equipment machine builders utilize as many stainless steel components as possible, even in areas where non-hygienic motors have been used. Aside from being difficult to clean, non-hygienic motors are prone to failure when exposed to rigorous cleaning schedules and harsh operating conditions. The Stainless Steel W Series Hygienic motor serves as the solution to these concerns as it maximizes productivity by delivering the performance that keeps the equipment up and running.

Its robust design eliminates the need for extra housing, while its innovative venting system eliminates the need to supply the motor with compressed air. It simplifies component integration and machine design as its optional three and six meter standard flying lead does not require intermediate cables.

The high torque density, precision balanced and low-cogging W Series motors employ grade stainless steel for internal and external metal components, a laser-etched nameplate, food-grade bearing grease and a food-grade shaft seal. Offered in 16 frame/stack combinations, the motors deliver a continuous torque of 80 Nm while its peak torque stands at 390 Nm at 7500 RPM. These performance and features enable pharmaceutical, food and beverage OEMs to exactly specify the right motor for the application without settling for a standard motor with a revised housing or overpaying for an over-specified motor.
