Ultra-Miniature SMT Reed Sensors ideal for low-power applications

April 4, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

MEDER electronic Inc. (www.meder.com) has announced the release of its latest series of ultra-miniature surface mount reed sensors. Ideally suited for use in various low power applications, such as contact sensors, portable medical and electronic devices, position sensors, cell phones, limit switches and telecommunications, the MK24 series of sensors delivers outstanding performance as against similar sized reed sensors.

Measuring just five mm x 1.8 mm x 2.2 mm, the company’s new sensor offers a life expectancy of at least 50 million operations at 5 V, 5 mA and 100 Hz. The MK24 sensor is specifically designed with a rugged over-molded package, which comes with hermetically sealed reed switch.

It eliminates the need for external power to operate while its compact feature makes it ideal for applications with space limitations and low power. Thus, the sensors are widely used in telecommunication applications, electronic printed circuit boards (PCBS), for microphone switching elements and in hook switches in mobile and hard wired phones.

The surface mount lead designs of the sensors include flat, bent SMD gull-wing lead; flat straight cut axial lead for PCB mounting and J-lead. Available in both normally closed and normally open variants, MK24 comes with five contact sensitivity ranges and are supplied reeled and taped, effectively making it ideally suited for use in pick-and-place component placement systems.
