Xilinx, Inc. (www.xilinx.com) has announced the release of its three all-new industrial Targeted Design Platforms at the SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010. Based on the low-cost Spartan-6 FPGA family, the platforms will help engineers boost performance and cut time to market for advanced motor control, PROFINET real time networking and GigE Vision industrial imaging applications.
”Xilinx’s Targeted Development Platforms, including the latest Spartan-6 FPGA-based solutions unveiled today at SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010, enable customers to realize system-on-chip solutions delivering the deterministic performance, highly power efficient, high precision and advanced functionality that today’s industrial end users demand,” said Joe Mallett, senior product manager of Xilinx Industrial: Scientific And Medical Group.
The Spartan-6 FPGA provides parallel processing performance and flexible interfaces needed to manage legacy and advanced communication protocols, handle gigabit-speed video or execute complex higher bandwidth motor-control algorithms. The company’s comprehensive design ecosystem and Targeted Design Platforms assemble the development boards, tools, IP cores, kits and silicon, enabling designers to focus on adding unique value.
Comprised of a complete reference design, programmable hardware and third-party software from partner Softing (www.softing.com), the platform reduces the resources and time needed for engineers and OEMs to produce fully functioning designs. The integrated daughter card supports multiple legacy serial connectivity and real-time industrial Ethernet protocols, as well as Xilinx ISE Design Suite: Embedded Edition.
”The Xilinx Targeted Design Platform provides well defined hardware enabling us to deliver robust and fully developed IP, which customers can use straight from the box and exploit to its full performance potential,” said Frank Iwanitz, Softing’s Ethernet Business Development Manager.
