MicroMo’s 8mm family of DC motors, encoders, gearheads

October 14, 2010 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

MicroMo Electronics, Inc. (www.micromo.com) has unveiled a new family of mini-drives with an outer diameter of only 8mm, providing maximum power. This family of drives is an impressive solution with several possible combinations using DC-Micromotors, with micro-encoders and precision gearheads.

The DC-Micromotors series 0816 is available in 3V, 6V and 8V versions, which have an outstanding power-to-volume ratio. The System FAULHABER, a patented ironless rotor, is truly remarkable with its extremely low inertia and low inductivity. Specifications include a no-load speed of up to 17 1000rpm, output power of 0.18W and stall torque of 0.41mNm.

A two-phase Stepper Motor with permanent magnets, the AM0820 is available in 2V, 3V, 5V and has a holding torque of 0.65mNm and 20 full steps per revolution. NdFeB is used as a magnet material to guarantee an excellent size to power ratio. The AM0820 also features two shaft bearings types: preloaded ball and sintered bronze sleeve bearings.

Also available are three all-metal precision gearheads of 08/1, 08/2 and 08/3. The 08/1 planetary gearhead offers user maximum drive torque of 120mNm in intermittent operations and 60mNm in continuous operation. The two additional 08/2 and 08/3 series spur gearheads are available in two executions, convinced with positioning control applications.

The company redefines miniature magnetic encoders with the HEM3-256, providing new possibilities for applications that require miniature motors with encoders. Also available are four resolutions that provide precise positional accuracy and stability control. The encoder is allowed to work with 3V or 5V power sources for low-voltage battery applications. It is also designed for robust reliability with an operating temperature range of -30°C to +85°C, allowing use in extreme applications.
