Sterling Instrument’s couplings allows for large misalignments

October 12, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Sterling Instrument has unveiled a new series of inch couplings with a special lattice design that allows for huge radial, axial and angular misalignments, while delivering high torque loads with zero backlash.

Offered in 35 models — identified as Series S50CLM to Series S50SCLP— these inch couplings offer angular offset of up to 7° and maximum torque ranging from five lbf-inch to 300 lbf-inch. The bore sizes of these inch couplings also range from 0.125-inch to 1.250-inch, but other bore sizes are available on special order.

Aside from that, the end flanges these inch couplings are composed of 416 stainless steel and the discs are made up of 420 polyamide resin discs or stainless steel, while the hubs are composed of 6,061 aluminum.

The overall length of the inch couplings range from 1.375 inch to 3.1 inches and the lateral offset ranges between 0.01-inch and 0.25-inch. The axial offset ranges from 0.02-inch to 0.05-inch, while the maximum torque ranges from 12 lbf-inch to 300 lbf-inch.

In addition, a comprehensive series of 24 metric lattice couplings with similar specifications are also available from stock.

The overall length of these metric couplings range from 35 mm to 79 mm and the lateral offset ranges between 0.250 mm and 0.630 mm. The axial offset ranges from 0.510 mm to 1.25 mm, while the maximum torque ranges from 1.4 Nm to 34 Nm.
