Avago’s Hall-effect magnetic encoder suitable for industrial applications

August 8, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Avago Technologies (www.avagotech.com) has introduced the highest-resolution Hall-effect magnetic encoder in the market that provides up to 16-bit resolution for accurate angle measurement on a full 360 degrees rotation, the AEAT-6600-T16 encoder.

Delivering robust performance required by applications in harsh environments, the new encoder is suitable for motor feedback and valve control, robotics, contactless rotary position sensing and medical applications. With magnetic technology for sensing activities and motion control, the encoder eliminates mechanical wear and tear as it provides a non-contact operation. Seamlessly combining built-in Hall elements, digital signal processing and analog front end in one device, the new encoder also offers an integrated programmability that permits personalized encoder settings and remarkable savings.

“The Avago AEAT-6600-T16 encoder delivers leading precision for motion control systems with highly durable magnetic technology in a small form factor, building on our industry leadership in high-resolution magnetic reflective encoders,” remarked Hassan Hussain, General Manager of the Motion Control Products Division at Avago.

“The device expands the reach of our complete optical and magnetic encoder portfolio, addressing applications operating in severe industrial conditions.”

Providing an easy one-step alignment that requires no calibration, the AEAT-6600-T16 device effectively reduces assembly costs and time, while avoiding handling-related concerns during set-up. It also reduces issues relevant to assembly tolerance errors in manufacturing process by delivering accurate performance over a large radial displacement and axial gap. The device delivers a serial output that enables it to reduce the number of wires needed. Offered in a compact 16-pin TSSOP package, the encoder comes with a low supply voltage making it suitable for portable, battery-operated applications.
