Banner Engineering introduces laser sensor with CMOS imager

January 19, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Banner Engineering (www.bannerengineering.com) has unveiled a non-contact measurement sensor that is specifically designed to deliver accurate and stable measurements.

Utilized in precision displacement and thickness measurements, the L-GAGE LH Series laser sensor has been developed to solve demanding requirements in measurement and quality control inspections on various materials such as metal, wood, ceramic, rubber and plastic parts.

The robust self-contained laser displacement sensor offers high-precision capabilities as well as a 1024 pixel CMOS linear imager that delivers a resolution of up to 1 micron, under normal conditions.

“The LH Series sensors are unique from traditional laser sensors due to the linear imager and its ability to be used on a wider variety of materials, reflective surfaces and colors,” remarked Dean Tyo, Chief Engineer for Vision, Measurement, and Instrumentation at Banner.

“Therefore, the LH allows operators to provide continuous non-contact measurements in a greater number of industries and applications that involve moving processes, stamped and machined parts, and soft or sticky parts.”

The features of the new sensor target thickness measurement or displacement with RS-485 serial communication outputs or high resolution 4-20 mA. The sensors can be employed in a network of up to 32 sensors, enabling it to perform multiple, simultaneous inspections.

The LH Series sensor is designed with an intuitive Graphical User Interface (GUI) that guides the user through setup as well as performance monitoring when adjusting the parameters of the sensor. Upon installing the LH, the GUI offers data acquisition tools to display the current measurements graphically. The GUI can also be set with parameters such as averaging, analog output scaling, sample size as well as other advanced features.
