Belden unveils new Lion-M Profinet I/O Modules

July 13, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Belden Inc. (www.belden.com) has expanded its Lumberg Automation portfolio with the addition of the LionN-M I/O Profinet modules.

With their port switches supporting both the isochronous real time (IRT) and real time (RT) standards, these modules allow actuators and sensors to be connected into real time ProfiNet I/O.

“These modules, which were especially designed for machines and systems with high signal density and stringent real-time requirements, allow easy cabling, individual I/O configuration and precise diagnostics. This means that maintenance and downtime can be reduced, thus increasing the productivity of your machines and systems,” said Hiyam Wakeem, Product Manager at Belden.

Channels are used as inputs in the 0980 ESL 701 (16DI) module, and utilized either as inputs or outputs in any combination in the universal 0980 ESL 700 version. With a total current capacity of up to 9A, the 0980 ESL 700 also offers a maximum rated output current of 1.6A. Its easy diagnostic concept enables the port to accurately locate faults.

Aside from facilitating line topologies, both modules can also be utilized in existing communication structures, such as energy chains and cable ducts, without altering their physical layout. The universal module delivers the highest degree of flexibility at the planning stage as well as at the commissioning stage or when performing subsequent upgrades.

Providing an innovative connectivity solution for ProfiNet I/O, the modules are specifically designed for temperatures ranging between 10° and +60°C. They feature a robust PBT (polybutylene terephthalate) housing and comply with the industrial protection class IP67 requirements. The power supply is connected through five pole 7/8” connectors and comes with a rated voltage of 24V as well as a range of 11V to 30V.
