DC Gearmotor ideal for robotics, solar tracking and automation

September 22, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

The Minnesota division of Midwest Motion Products, Inc. (www.midwestmotion.com) has proudly released its latest DC Gear Motor with Model No. MMP TM57-12V GP52-124. Measuring 7.76 inches long and 2.24 inches in diameter, this robust gear motor accepts any 12VoltDC source, including battery or solar power. Ideally suited for robotics, solar tracking and automation, the gear motor also features a keyed output shaft of 25 mm long and 12 mm diameter. It can also be easily mounted, thanks to the  four “face mount” M5 threaded holes, which are evenly spaced on a 40 mm Dia. B.C.

This reversible gear motor delivers an output that is rated for 15.3 Nm (136 lb. in.) torque, at 35 rpm. Although it comes in a compact package — weighing only around four pounds — the efficient design of the gear motor requires only 7.2 Amps at 12 Volts DC to produce its Full Load Torque, and translate into remarkably low noise operation, long life battery charge and reduced costs for related drive electronics. The company also offers motor windings for 24 Volts, 28 Volts, 36 Volts, 42 Volts, 48 Volts, 60 Volts and 90 Volts.

The gear motor’s innovative design is rated “IP 54” protection level, making it suitable for operation in harsh environments. Variable speed control can be achieved with the company’s fully compatible Speed Controls, Model MMP 20A-12V-RSP or MMP 25A-12V.

Typical options offered by the company include Failsafe Brakes, Servo Motors with integral Optical Encoders, Analog Tachometers and various Planetary Gearheads.
