DC motors for agricultural equipment applications

October 8, 2015 By Mike Santora Leave a Comment

Pittman-Motors-Agriculture-PRPITTMAN Motors, a business unit of AMETEK Precision Motion Control, has introduced its latest offering in a broad range of DC brush and brushless motors to the agriculture equipment industry.  Pittman DC gear motors with encoders are used in agricultural planting equipment for consistent dispensing of seed and insecticide to improve crop yield. Pittman offers a range of DC motors available with low voltage windings suitable for battery powered planting equipment.

The DC030C series is a 30 mm diameter motor available in three motor lengths with output power ratings of 8 to 30W. Gear reduction for the DC030C motor includes the G35 spur gearbox with load torque ratings of 0.71 to 1.24 Nm and the G30 planetary gearbox with load torque ratings of 2.47 to 8.83 Nm.

The DC054B series is a 54 mm diameter motor available in seven motor lengths with output power ratings of 25 to 108 W. Gear reduction for the DC054B motor includes the G51 spur gearbox with load torque ratings of 1.24 to 3.53 Nm and the PLG52 planetary gearbox with load torque ratings of 1.2 to 24 Nm.

Pittman offers a range of encoder feedback options for closed loop speed control of seeders and insecticide injectors. High resolution optical sensors can provide resolutions from 16 – 5000 cycles per revolution. For control systems with low frequency inputs, Hall Effect sensors with lower resolutions are available. Pittman also customizes shafts, mountings, cables and connectors to suit special application requirements.
