Emerson automates data center infrastructure for AI workloads

Emerson’s DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers is an automation portfolio designed for data centers supporting AI workloads. It provides monitoring and control for critical infrastructure by connecting thermal, mechanical and electrical subsystems within a scalable automation architecture.

AI-related data center growth is shortening project timelines and increasing coordination requirements across supply chains, engineering teams, design teams, electricians, engineers and other project personnel. These teams must complete projects on compressed schedules while meeting reliability, flexibility and operating requirements for modern data centers.

The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers is intended to help bring large-scale facilities online by using an integrated automation architecture from the start of project design. The platform replaces separate point solutions and manual subsystem coordination with a unified control approach, which can reduce engineering effort, simplify integration and improve consistency across commissioning, operations and maintenance.

The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers delivers:

  • Precision control: Provides real-time monitoring and management of variable loads and cooling systems, with equipment-level and facility-wide control that adjusts to changing thermal loads.
  • Reliability at scale: Provides integrated control and operational visibility to help data center teams identify abnormal conditions, respond to issues and maintain continuous operations.
  • Project support: Uses repeatable, standardized designs and project execution experience to help engineering teams manage execution risk, shorten schedules and support reliable startup.
  • Lifecycle support: Provides operating models and intelligence tools to help data centers manage expansions and optimize operations across multiple facilities and regions.

The DeltaV Automation Platform for Data Centers includes the DeltaV distributed control system (DCS) and DeltaV programmable logic controllers (PLCs), which connect to the DCS for system-wide process control. The DeltaV DCS and DeltaV PLCs include context-specific AI tools intended to support engineering workflows, advanced process control and integration with AI optimization models. The DCS and PLCs are designed to work together to support project execution, cost control, operating performance and future autonomous operations.
