At Booth N-5449 in the North Hall, Emerson will showcase compressed air motion control, electric motion and handling and integrated control solutions. The technologies support applications ranging from PET and glass blow molding and filling to thermoform, fill and seal (TFFS) and secondary packaging.

Visitors can learn about:

  • AVENTICS proportional valves, dome regulators and blowing blocks for PET and glass molding applications
  • Afag feeding and handling systems and FDA-certified proportional valves for TFFS lines
  • Customized filling valve units, pusher units and sensors for filling applications

Presentation and event highlights

Emerson will present “Blow by Blow: Stabilizing High-Speed PET Bottle Forming Through Precise Pressure and Motion Control” at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at the PACK EXPO Innovation Stage 2 (N-4580).

Manuel Görbert, segment marketing manager for Factory Automation at Emerson, will discuss pressure and motion control during the pre-blow, intermediate and final stages of PET bottle forming. The presentation will address how controlling the blowing profile can reduce process variation and bottle breakage.

The presentation will also cover how dynamic proportional control can reduce scrap, support lightweighting, maintain product performance and improve overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).

With millions of possible configurations and high flow rates, AVENTICS Series XV pneumatic valves from Emerson offer OEMs enhanced design flexibility and scalability when engineering packaging equipment. (image courtesy of Emerson)

Booth demonstrations

Visitors to the Emerson booth can speak with company experts, attend live demonstrations and explore packaging solutions from the AVENTICS and Afag brands.

Hybrid motion systems

A hybrid motion demonstration will show how servo drives, motors, electric actuators and pneumatic components can be combined in automation systems. The setup will illustrate how machine builders can use the speed and precision of electronic actuation together with the flexibility and compliance of pneumatic actuators and grippers.

AVENTICS Series XV valve configurator

An interactive product wall will feature a digital configurator for the AVENTICS Series XV valve system. Visitors can use the tool to specify valve size, electronics, fieldbus protocol, pressure regulators, shut-off valves, flow modules and pressure-supply modules based on their application requirements.

The Series XV platform includes the XV03, with flow rates of up to 350 NL/min, and the XV05, with flow rates of up to 1,000 NL/min. The system is designed for handling and packaging applications that require configurable valve options and different flow capacities.

Proportional valve demonstration

The AVENTICS proportional valve demonstration will show how pneumatic control can be used in applications such as PET blow molding and thermoform, fill and seal lines.

AVENTICS Sentronic direct-acting proportional valves will demonstrate airflow control. A proportional pressure regulator will control pressure to a Series RTC rodless cylinder to illustrate how proportional pressure control can support defined motion profiles in pneumatic actuators.

The AVENTICS proportional valve portfolio includes direct-acting and pilot-operated valves with orifices ranging from less than 1 millimeter to 20 millimeters. The valves offer configurable designs and optional control parameters.

Washdown demonstration

Visitors with applications that require regular cleaning can view a washdown demonstration featuring the AVENTICS CL Series valve platform.

The IP69K valve systems are available as single-valve or manifolded configurations and are enclosed in a polymer housing designed for high-pressure cleaning environments, including food and beverage processing and packaging applications. The design eliminates the need for a separate enclosure and allows the valves to be installed close to the actuators.

The housing material is resistant to sanitizing agents and aggressive chemicals. The housing has no joints or gaps where food particles, bacteria or moisture could collect. Available in two-way and three-way configurations with flow rates of up to 1,100 l/min, the CL Series supports actuation through fieldbus communication or direct wiring.

High-speed pick-and-place demonstration

The high-speed pick-and-place demonstration will use a gripper to move LEDs to and from a fast-indexing rotary table. The system will combine modular linear actuators with electronic grippers to demonstrate variable-speed handling applications relevant to medical device packaging and small consumer packaged goods.

The demonstration will focus on how accuracy and speed can affect cycle times, engineering requirements and maintenance costs.
