Enhanced Lenze 3200 C controller for modular machines and robot cells

December 16, 2016 By Miles Budimir Leave a Comment

Lenze’s enhanced 3200 C Controller capitalizes on the advantages of modularized motion control by providing a powerful modular platform for decentralized control cabinets.

“Due to a rising demand for more flexible production, there is an emerging trend in modern mechanical engineering. Machines are increasingly becoming modular,” said Daniel Repp, business development manager, automation solutions, Lenze Americas. “Complex machines require powerful and uniform automation systems to enable the coordinated movement of multiple axes. By encapsulating control functions in the cabinet, the 3200 C Controller empowers customers to capitalize more fully on the advantages of modularization.”

The 3200 C Controller delivers precision motion control in dynamic, multi-axis applications, including gantry and other robot cells, conveyors, feeders, and other machines in a process line. Featuring an integrated Ethernet switch and EtherCAT on-board, the 3200 C provides seamless communication for applications ranging from two to 64 axes. Combining logic (PLC), motion control and visualization in a single compact device simplifies engineering and extends cost savings.

The 3200 C Controller platform features an Intel® Atom™ processor, an especially robust design, and large power reserves. Designed for easy mounting onto a DIN rail in the control cabinet, the high-performance computing power translates into improved axes control. The virtually maintenance-free controllers are also efficient when it comes to controlling complex motion functions, with little power loss. The slim-line housing design and high-efficiency computing power eliminate the need for control cabinet air conditioning or fans.

The future-proof 3200 C Controller meets or exceeds industrial standards IEC 61131-3, PLCopen, PLC Designer (CoDeSys3), and EtherCAT. Automated standard setup via a USB flash drive, simple device replacement via a pluggable memory card, and diagnostics via an integrated Web server minimize time for 3200 C Controller commissioning and maintenance.

In addition to the 3200 C Controller, the Lenze controller-based automation portfolio includes servo and frequency inverters with compatible standard three-phase AC motors and synchronous and asynchronous servomotors, gearboxes and I/O systems—for complete end-to-end motion control solutions.
