Genesis unveils optimized Grapple Product

May 31, 2011 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Genesis Attachments (www.genesisattachments.com), one of the world’s leading companies dedicated to delivering real solutions for the challenges of the demolition, scrap processing and material handling industries, has unveiled enhancements to its portfolio of orange-peel type scrap grapple.

Designed to improve durability and productivity, reduce maintenance, enhance safety and lower operating costs, the optimized grapple is offered in capacities ranging between 0.75 cubic yards and 1.5 cubic yards.

“We looked hard at our original design and listened to customer feedback to identify areas in which improvements could be made,” said Dan Raihala, Design Engineer at Genesis.

“The first was in the area of maintenance. The new design features composite bearings with dust seals at all pivot points, leaving only the rotation bearing to grease. The heavy-duty cylinder guarding system, designed to protect the cylinders and internal components, is easily removed for maintenance.”

The enhanced grapple is now designed with large-bore hydraulic cylinders to maximize clamping force, reverse-mounted cylinders that protect rods from damage and long-life, abrasion-resistant steel tips, which can easily be replaced with a simple perimeter weld.

“We also recognized that our customers want a choice in tines, and Genesis now offers the widest variety,” added Raihala.

“We provide flat bottom or pointed tine shapes and augment them with three spade types—half-, narrow- and wide-width—to meet specific application needs.”

The new grapple also feature high-torque 360 degree continuous rotation for optimized material access, an overall footprint that can easily fit inside trailers and large-diameter hardened steel pins with integrated shear-proof placement and retainers.
