Haydon Kerk unveils new stepper motor linear actuator and drive package

May 29, 2012 By Motion Control Tips Editor Leave a Comment

Linear motion products manufacturer Haydon Kerk Motion Solutions (www.haydonkerk.com) has introduced its integrated Size 17 “captive” stepper motor linear actuator and DCM4826X microstepping drive module.

Available in single stack as well as double stack motor configurations, the integrated linear actuator/drive unit also comes with a vast array of lead screw resolutions.

In the single stack version, the system delivers an output force of up to 220N (50 lbf), while offering 337 N (76 lbf) in the double stack variant. Depending on the stepper motor step angle and lead screw pitch, the system’s linear travel per step range from 1.5 microns to 127 microns.

Rated for a 12 VDC to 48 VDC, the drive module is a bipolar two phase chopper drive package that offers a continuous current rating of 2.6A rms (3.68A peak) per phase. Customers can also order the linear actuator and drive system with one of three standard motor coil voltages — 12V, 5V and 2.33V.

Meanwhile, the drive unit can be configured using the Haydon Kerk PDE User Interface through a computer USB port or an RS-485 protocol, with the desired values for Hold Current, Run Current, Step Size and Delay time set through the interface. After the parameters have been programmed, the drive can then accept the direction, pulse and enable signals from the controller/indexer. The direction, pulse and enable signals are coupled optically into drive, offering electrical isolation between the power circuits and the signals.
